What is a certificate of good standing?

A Certificate of Good Standing is a document issued by Companies House, the UK's Registrar of companies, which confirms that a company is up-to-date with its filings obligations to the Registrar. It is sometimes known as a Certificate of Status or Certificate of Existence.

The Certificate of Good Standing includes the following information:

  • Date of incorporation
  • Director(s) name(s) and details, such as nationality
  • Company secretary name (if relevant)
  • Registered office address
  • Company objects (if relevant)
  • Verification that the company is up to date with its filing requirements.

Our Certificate of Good Standing Service can help you obtain the Certificate of Good Standing for your company quickly and easily. We will handle the application process on your behalf and liaise with Companies House to obtain the Certificate.

If your firm is dissolved or struck off the register with Companies House, or if it has not complied with filings, we will be unable to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing.

Why would I need a Certificate of Good Standing?

The Certificate of Good Standing can be used to demonstrate to banks, suppliers and other businesses that the company is in good standing with the UK authorities.

There are a number of reasons why you may need to provide a Certificate of Good Standing:

  • To open a bank account in the UK or overseas.
  • As part of your tendering process for contracts.
  • When changing the structure of your business.
  • When selling or transferring shares in your company.

Get your Certificate apostilled

If you need to use your Certificate of Good Standing overseas, you may need to get it apostilled. This is a legal process that certifies the Certificate for international use. We can arrange for the Certificate to be apostilled for an additional fee.

How long does it take to get a Certificate of Good Standing?

If you use our Standard service, the Certificate of Good Standing will be sent to you within 10 working days from the date of order. Time frames may vary depending on how busy Companies House is.

If you need your certificate faster, choose the Express service and it will be issued within 24 hours. The Express service is available only for purchases made before 1 p.m. Mon-Fri.

How does the service work?

  1. You place your order on our website and make payment.
  2. We will apply for the Certificate of Good Standing on your behalf and liaise with Companies House to obtain it.
  3. If you have chosen the apostille service, we will arrange for the Certificate to be apostilled.
  4. Once we have received the Certificate, we will send it to you by post using Royal Mail Special Delivery (for free) within the UK, or DHL (at an extra charge) to any destination in the world.

What do I need to provide?

To use our Certificate of Good Standing Service, you will need to provide some basic information about your company, such as the company name and number, and your contact details. We will then take care of the rest.

Please note that we are a UK-based company and can only provide Certificate of Good Standing services for companies registered in the UK. If your company is registered outside of the UK, you will need to apply for a Certificate of Good Standing from the relevant authorities in your country.
